Updating the Firmware of Netgear Wireless Router Model# R6300v2

I have the Netgear Wireless Router Model# R6300v2, which I purchased from a Cox store. Currently, the firmware is V1.0.3.48_10.0.85COX. However, Netgear have pushed out several firmware updates, some of which are security related. I have been trying to update mine since April, 2017 to no avail. Netgear's generic updates are not compatible since my router has a customized Cox firmware. When I use router's web portal to check for online update, it always does not find any updates.

I understand Cox only push updates to modem routers, but how can I get this stand-alone, Cox-provided wireless router updated?

It's frustrating to see Netgear updates coming out, while I'm stuck with an old Cox-customized firmware.

I need someone from Cox to confirm what the last Cox-customized firmware available for my router is. And How can I obtain it?

Thanks!

  • We have to test any new firmware updates on our network before we send them out, so there will usually be a delay from the time a modem manufacturer provides a firmware update and the time that we actually send them out. We can check to see if this modem has any firmware updates available, send us an email to cox.help@cox.com with a link to this thread and your home address or modem MAC address.

I was asking about a wireless router not a modem.

    Hello Rayya,

After further review, you're correct that version is a router. Netgear website provides the latest firmware update information in the link http://bit.ly/2zPfEpy
    Thanks

Hi, Brian.  I have a Netgear modem/router.  Like all Netgear owners, I received an email from Netgear warning me of security vulnerabilities.  That's all.  I don't know what the vulnerabilities are or whether they affect me.  As you pointed out, I cannot update my modem anyway.  But I'd like you to tell me if there is a risk I might be unaware of.  Thanks.

  • Hello, if you have received a notice from Netgear pertaining to any information to their equipment.  It would be best to contact them.  If you would like for us to check your modem to verify you have the most current firmware applied to it.  Please reach us on Twitter at @CoxHelp, visit us on Facebook, or email by at cox.help@cox.com. Provide us the name on the account with the full service address with a link to this thread so we can get started.
