Too much SPAM!

I don't use my Cox email anymore but since it's the primary email address for our Cox account, I have to keep it open and working.  I check it about every 6-8 weeks.  I haven't sent an email from my COX account in a couple of years

It seems that I get more and more SPAM in my mail box every time I log in.  In March there were 8 SPAM or Phishing emails.  I didn't open any but you can tell what they are with the email label (Your COX account needs updating; Greetings from Madame Nagobe; Your password needs updating--from the Bank of Canada or some other foreign bank!!, etc).  I am so glad that I don't use COX as my primary email account....what a hassle!

Is there something I'm doing wrong?  I haven't sent personal emails from the COX account, except to report SPAM, since August 2016.

    Cox fined for getting hacked

That's why so many individuals with a Cox account gets spam. Cox didn't notify me about it either.

The Support article only makes sense for vulnerabilities the user may make.

I've essentially disabled my main user account and keep having to create additional email accounts. The best email in my opinion is GMail.

  • Hi Loaded4th,

The date on the article you mentioned is November 2015. It's unlikely to be related to a recent increase in email spam.

Really, even my SPAM folder has recently had a surge. It's likely that a number of individuals have recently purchased the hacked emails.

If you want to receive any emails from Cox, you might consider setting up an additional email account .

If you log into your primary email account and go to Internet Tools, you can set up an additional email. Then, in Webmail, go to Settings and set up a vacation message stating "email account no longer active due to spam" and check Reply every time with or without the original message.

That way you are letting genuine emailers know the account is no longer active, and for a few spammers, the bounce back may make them delete your email.

Hopefully, you won't have to keep checking it.

I read elsewhere that I think around Nov 2016 they switched something in regards to spam blocking on their back end which obviously was a mistake because it seems everybody around that time has started getting pounded with spam.  That's why I finally got tired of it and switched EVERYTHING over to my Gmail account.  Oh my it was such a pain in the butt to go through switching everything especially things like PSN/XBox/iPhone etc but in the end it was worth it, I get like 0 spam with Gmail.
