Timeline for Docsis 3.1 eMTA approved modem?

Hello,

I currently receive phone service through an eMTA modem.  I have recently decided to upgrade my modem to a docsis 3.1 modem.  However, there are not any docsis 3.1 eMTA modems on the Cox approved modems list.  Is there a timeline to the availability of a docsis 3.1 eMTA modem, specifically the ARRIS Touchstone TM3402 eMTA, to the Cox approved modems list?

Cox is set to begin rolling out Docsis 3.1 technology later this year. We do not have a set date on when this will happen though. We also do not know which eMTA modems will be supported by Cox as well.

to add to what was mentioned cox does not allow customer owned  eMTA's at this time.  Cox provides them free as long as you have phone service through cox

    A secondary question:

If Cox forces you to rent eMTA approved modems to use the Cox VOIP service, are there alternatives to renting from Cox for phone service?  Specifically, using a new Cox approved docsis 3.1 modem, and a VOIP adapter, such as the Cisco SPA122 ATA?  Or is this a marketing and billing scheme to force renting the device from Cox?

All eMTAs have to be rented from us in order to be provisioned however we do not charge for them unless they also have integrated wireless gateways. You also do not have to use your eMTA for Internet if you have your own device you'd rather use for that purpose.
