Service Issues

A few days ago, the TV and Internet services have been having issues. All TV's / Cable Box's are showing video artifacts off and on at certain times. The internet speeds are also changing at different times from Good to horrible.

These issues begin after it rained in the area. We already contact tech support on the issues and has noted in our account. We have already reset the modem and TV Box's to no success. The tech did told us that other customers in the area are having the same issue and a service call to the area be done in a few days.

Hopefully the problem be resolved in a few days. We are in 89081 zip code.

Downstream Channels Table

Power Level    |  Signal to Noise Ratio

Channel 1: -4.0 dBmV 37.1 dB
Channel 2: -3.3 dBmV 37.3 dB
Channel 3: -2.9 dBmV 37.0 dB
Channel 4: -2.5 dBmV 37.2 dB
Channel 5: -3.3 dBmV 28.9 dB
Channel 6: -2.7 dBmV 27.7 dB
Channel 7: -2.9 dBmV 36.7 dB
Channel 8: -3.2 dBmV 37.3 dB

Upstream Channels Table Below

Channel 1: 54.0 dBmV
Channel 2: 54.0 dBmV
Channel 3: 0.0 dBmV
Channel 4: 0.0 dBmV

I am unsure what Downstream or Upstream Values are bad. But that is a snapshot from the modem.

  • There you go those Tx/Rx/SNR levels are much much better, right in line with where they should be.  Also appears the speed is good if you are on Preferred.

Your upstream power on channels 1 & 2 are very high, Channels 3 & 4 are in a timeout status (T4 most likely), and channels 5 & 6 on Rx have very poor SNR ratings.  I'd start off checking and reseating all connectors, removing any un-needed splitters, and ensuring the cleanest path to the modem.  Also, check the network demarkation for moisture or a loose cover.

The rain can have caused a bit of an issue if some moisture got past weather proofing, I've seen similar things happen up north after a particularly bad freeze or very heavy rain.  A cox mod can probably check your connection for dropped packets and other signal level issues.

Even tho the problem has been solved, I would like some info on the channels

Can you explain to me what range is good for each of the channels? So that next time I can use the ranges for a reference for next time.

    Like between 32-35 or something?

Google is your friend ... a search for "DOCSIS 3 signal levels" yields many results including here.
