service charges

Long story short, had lost tv internet and phone service.  technician came out re wired part of outside service, tv worked but internet and phone kept dropping out at midnight, after several weeks of this another technician came out and replaced outside wire to the main wire on power pol.  Showed me that squirrels had eaten into the wire ant this should fix problem.  However as technician was being thorough he cut the splitter on side of house.  Problem is now I am told their is a $75 service fee because technician replaced the splitter which did not need to be replaced.  I question this as it was not what appeared to be the problem.  As point of order not happy about this and when called billing they offered a 6 dollar a month repair contract to replace the 75  charge.  We have been a loyal customer for 40 years and while the money is not the issue it's that I don't understand why I should be charged this fee for a problem not connected to the house.  thinking of trying a dish network, probably they have same issues but just grates at my understanding on what I thought was cox issue that they want me to pay for.

Any solution.
