Screen freezes, loses sound

The past few months whenever I try to watch a recorded show, after approx 6 minutes, the sounds goes mute.  The only way to get it back is to turn off the DVR.  Also, while playing back my taped shows, the screen freezes several times.  It's getting worse and worse.  We have the Contour whole home DVR and one remote DVR both using HDMI cables.  It started with just the remote box, now both are doing daily.

    Do you get any error messages? Also, is this happening with all recordings or just new ones?
