Rovi Power-On Channel

The power-on channel stopped working for my cable box (CSH4642).

When I turn on my TV and cable box, the power-on channel is now the standard-definition channel of C-SPAN.  I've confirmed my power-on channel in the settings, which is correct, and reset my cable box.  However, it still defaults to C-SPAN SD, channel 41.

Also, whenever my cable box re-synchronizes during the day, the channel changes to C-SPAN SD.

What happened?

  • Hi Bruce,

Due to overnight maintenance, the servers that process cable receiver transactions are backed up. A signal to reinitialize the receiver is pending. I'll be able to tell when the signal processes, and we can check the power-on channel after the reset is confirmed. I apologize for the delay!

Can you try selecting another channel for the "power-on" channel? If that works, please try switching it back to the channel you'd like it to be. Please let me know how that works. If it doesn't I can send signals to the box.

It still defaults to C-SPAN SD.  I selected The Weather Channel as my power-on channel, turned off my cable box for 5 minutes...but it still powered on to C-SPAN SD.

Will the signals you send to my box be the same as the Refresh command from your webpage?  If not, I'll leave my cable box on to send your signals.

  • Hi Bruce,

Since your post yesterday evening, we've received reports from several other NOVA customers stating their power-on channel has also been changed to C-SPAN. We have several different types of signals we can send to receivers, most of which are different from the refresh command on the webpage. Is now a good time for me to reset your box?

Yes...now is a good time.  My cable box is on and awaiting your different types of signals.

I am also having the problem where my box switches to channel 42/CSPAN when I power it on. Can I fix it by unplugging the cable box and letting it reset?

    Thanks

I reset my cable box twice and it doesn't fix the power-on channel.  The Moderator confirmed it's a regional problem and the back-logged servers are processing the reinitialize signals.  I'm unsure how many reinitialize signals or how many cable boxes are involved with this processing.  All?

For now, it's an inconvenience but at least I'm in the queue for something to happen.

The power-on channel is now working for my cable box.  I didn't notice a reinitialize signals affecting my cable box but apparently it worked.

  • Thank you for letting us know that it is working now. Have a great weekend.
