Random latency spikes across all services.

Hello. I have been experiencing random latency spikes all throughout the day and evening on my internet service. At first I thought the issue was my cheap netgear router, so I replaced with an Asus RTN66U, still having issues. It is really annoying, especially when gaming. The last latency spike session, I ran a tracert towards a League of Legends Game server, see imgur link below. As you can see, latency changes as soon as it leaves my network. I should also note, that speedtests indicate I have a 60Mbps up/ 6Mbps down connection when there is no lag. During these latency sessions, speedtests indicate a much lower downlink speed.

Here is a screenshot of the modem link levels, in case that helps. The downstream levels seem to be fluctuating a tiny bit, but from what I can see are well within normal operating limits.

I have scanned all PC's on the network for malware, with no results found. I am unsure of what else to do. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Please let me know if there is any more information needed.

    I would say your upstream power might be a little high for comfort.

    I have two family members with the Cisco Cox supplied Voice modems and get issues just like this as well.  I am not a fan of any of the Cox supplied modems, but if you have voice service, I believe that's your only option.

    Thanks for your reply. I would venture to guess that this is more closely related to routing issues. I do not currently subscribe to any voice packages. According to the Tracert, it seems that as soon as my connection hits the Cox gateway, latency increases.

    I have been experiencing this exact same problem today. It started late night on July 7 and has continued throughout the day on July 8. Gaming is next to impossible. It seems to be quite random as to when it happens and only lasts for about 5-15 seconds each time but that is enough to constantly kick me out of my gaming session.

    My traceroutes show the latency starts the first hop after I leave my network as well. I don't have a saved traceroute at the moment but will try to capture one the next time it happens.

    We'd be happy to take a look if you could get some results to share. I'd also suggest testing without the router to see if that makes any difference.

    So a Cox tech came to the house today, checked the plugs on the modem, then proceeded to go outside. He replaced a cable connection, came in and said it was fixed. I was happy! jumped into a LoL match and proceeded to lag to death. This is indeed a routing issue, as all hardware has been deemed acceptable. I have spent weeks testing and troubleshooting this. What will it take to get Cox to take me seriously?

    I have the same problem had a tech come out replace pretty much everything. The direct speeds are fine, but I found out the wifi card in my computer i use most is the actual problem.  Replacing that and speeds went back to normal without the ping and lag issues.

    I looked again at your modem and the upstream signals being reported is still showing signs of problems. A tech may need to come back out and and investigate further.

    Looking at your connection it appears your router may not be fast enough to support your subscribed speeds which may explain why your direct speeds are better.
