Random email delivery failures

Like most of us, I regularly receive email from a number of different senders.  For the last week plus, a good number of these emails have simply stopped arriving.  My Cox Homelife account is supposed to send me an email every time the system is either armed or disarmed.  I get some of these - some I don't.  My wife has also experienced stopped delivery of email from several of her regulars.

These emails are not in my or her Inboxes, Span, or Deleted Items folders when I check via webmail, nor do they make it to our iThings.

Any one else experiencing this behavior?

  • Do you have your spam blocker settings set to delete incoming spam automatically? You can check to see if this is the case by going into webmail, click on the settings button and then click on "SpamBlocker Settings". I would recommend setting it to the 3rd option of tagging identified spam with the word spam on the subject line for now to see if it does allow this mail to come through. This will let you know if something was misidentified as spam when it should not have been. If that is the case then you can forward the email as an attachment to thisisnotspam@cox.net for review by our mail team.

In "Inbox", "Spam settings", of the choices that were available to me, I chose
    Automatically deliver to Spam folder

The one you suggested was not available.

I will note that these emails used to come through without a problem - most were daily.  I'll also note that I changed no settings on any devices nor in web mail.  To the best I can tell, this began spontaneously - or at least without my involvement.

  • Ahh, okay. It sounds like you must be on the new email platform already then. With that version you can also set it to "No Spam filtering" if you want. That will make it so that nothing is filtered from our end, however, you may then start to receive a lot more mail/spam that you may not actually want to see.

    BrianM:

I'm not on board with the implication that this is a spam filter issue:  Until I made the change you just suggested, my spam filter settings were the default settings.

So, what would have changed to prevent me receiving these emails that I reliably received just a couple of weeks ago?

  • The reason I am thinking that it may be our spam filter is because the default setting would be to delete anything that is identified as spam (even if it may not actually be spam). Something may have changed on our spam filter and it may be misidentifying emails as spam. Without changing your spam filters setting, you will never know if that is the case since the emails would be automatically deleted before seeing them in your inbox or spam folder.

It's been over 24 hours since I made the spam filter changes you suggested.  None of the emails have showed up in my Spam folder and they were arriving daily.  Clearly, the spam filter settings are not the problem.

    What is?

Do you by chance have auto-forwarding enabled in your webmail settings?

I am having the EXACT same issue!!! It has been happening for over a week. BEFORE THAT, COX WAS DOWN COMPLETELY and I got no emails.  I first became aware of the delay, as I always blind copy myself, and I noticed I wasnt getting any copies. That being said, the people I was sending to did receive my emails right away.  So, then I noticed, that emails sent to me at 9a in the morning, were arringing at 9pm in the evening.  This is very random.  i get some in an hour and some is 4-24 hrs. I have called support until I am blue in the face.  I have talked to tier 2 a few times, and they say they will forward my source codes of a few delayed emails to some dept that handles this, and it will take a week at least, as you cannot talk to this dept.  They have to research it and get back to the tier 2 person who then has to get back to me.  At first I thought it was just emails with attachments, but it is both.  I am sending my self test emails, some with attachments and some not.  Same difference.  DELAYED!!!  WHAT IS GOING ON?? I have POP email. MY friends who have cox are NOT experiencing this issue.  My emails are delayed onWEBMAIL, MAC &  IPHONE. I have no other program that is set up for my email.  Just my APPLE MAIL  set up on my MAC. My SPAM is set to SEND ALL and just tag.  I have NO BLOCKED SENDERS. I have checked every aspect.  As I said, they are NOT coming to webmail either. PLEASE HELP!! I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT A WEEK OR TWO, UNTIL THIS OTHER DEPT GETS BACK TO Tier 2 who may or may not get back to me.
