Phone Tools Inaccessible

I have enjoyed and benefited from the Cox Phone Tools Call History for a long while. Now, when I try to open it to view recent calls I'm faced with a "We've created a better experience but we'll need to update your browser first" followed by icons of several browsers, but not the one I use called Pale Moon (a variation of Firefox). At that point I'm stuck...can't access the Phone Tools, can't 'update' my own browser...completely foiled. What's going on with that? Why did Cox techs choose to list a few of the many browsers for 'updating' and thus deny all other browsers access to the Phone Tools site? Seems that if any and all browsers need to be 'updated' to enjoy the "better experience" that Cox would have listed one and all for the Cox prescribed update. Can this be fixed?

What version of Palemoon do you have? A update was just released yesterday. If you can't update it, or if it doesn't work after you update, you need to use a different browser. A browser is a program, and each one works a little differently. Cox has to choose how they design their site to be compatible with the most amount of browsers possible. However, Pale Moon is a version of Firefox that isn't widely used, so Cox probably didn't test the site with it.

    "Can this be fixed?"

Not on Cox's side. Either you need to upgrade the browser you are using or use one that is compatible.

Thanks for your input. I installed the latest Pale Moon upgrade and Cox still denies me access to the Phone Tools. Pale Moon had been working beautifully in getting access until Cox 'fixed' it for a 'better experience,' they say, but the better experience turns out to be a denial of access. Had they not messed with it all would still be well I accessed the Phone Tools with my Firefox and Chrome browsers and what I see is not a 'better experience' at all, it's the same as always. I just don't think Cox should make changes that are not compatible with any and all browsers on the market. I won't change browsers for this one purpose, but may consider changing phone service providers. Thanks again for taking time to weigh in.

What does the error say exactly? Can you show a screenshot? I don't have Cox phone anymore so I can't test, but my guess is they upgraded to HTML5. I WOULD consider this a upgrade, in both performance, stability, and security. It's something a lot of people have been asking for. It makes it so you don't need to use flash or Java plugins to view the site, which don't work on some people's computer by either choice or accident. How is your browser handling HTML5? Test here.

"I just don't think Cox should make changes that are not compatible with any and all browsers on the market."

Then they couldn't make ANY changes. There are hundreds of different browsers. I design websites and even I only test for 4-5 different browsers. To make something that is compatible with everything is improbable bordering on impossible. Its like trying to design a tire works on EVERY car. Anything you COULD design like that would be so non-specific it wouldn't be useful. Also, lowering the security and performance to the lowest bar punishes those that DO make sure they are using modern and standardized browsers.

"I won't change browsers for this one purpose, but may consider changing phone service providers. "

Who is asking you to change browsers? I have 7 browsers on my computer and use them for different things. Some are better at doing some things then others. To limit yourself to one, and to let it dictate your phone provider, is not self productive IMO.

PS. Did you make a post about this on another forum? I remember seeing a thread on a different forum discussing Pale Moon and a problem with Cox's site. Was that you? If that was NOT you, then it would confirm it's not just a problem with YOUR install of the browser, but a compatibility issue in general.

You scored 398 while my Chrome scored 499. That is a big difference. Here is a comparsion between your browser, my Chrome, and a standard FF score. The two things that FF and Chrome have that Pale Moon does not is DRM for streaming and animation API. These are two important things to have when viewing a modern HTML5 site.

This may NOT be related to your problem, and I am waiting for your screenshot to get more info, but I am thinking it's a issue with the DRM. FF had to work/pay Adobe to get the DRM module to work so that module probably didn't carry over to the open source version of FF; Pale Moon. See here and here for more info. Long story short, you will probably need to use a different browser for Cox's phone tool page and any page that use HTML5 in specific ways. I would suggest using, or downloading, a different browser and set the homepage to be Cox's phone tools so you can open it with a single click. Or just use your phone or a different computer to check it.

That isn't how Imgur works. When you upload something there is a link on the left side next to "Copy" button. Paste that link into a post. See here for a picture example: http://imgur.com/a/rD5Z1
