Paying for 300 mbps, not even getting 20. What gives?

Hi forum, for the past 2 days I have been getting less than "optimal" speeds to say the least. It took me about 20 seconds to open up this page, so thats saying something. Anyways, Im paying for 300/30 speeds, but getting less than advertised

Router is: ARRIS DG2460

I know its not my PC because

A) Its wired, and

B) My phone cant load anything when connected to WiFi and

C) My smart TV refuses to connect due to a bad connection.

I assure you my pc is 10/100/1000 Ethernet as well as my router. I have done nothing to the router except change the name and the passwords on the dual band networks. Ive reset my router by unplugging it for an hour, resetting though the direct ip connection, and evem through cox. If this keeps going, I might switch back to centurylink, because as unreliable as they are, at least they give me my speeds.

I saw you also mentioned router. Do you have a separate router connected to the Arris gateway? Also, can you try visiting http://192.168.100.1 and posting the signal status results from there?

Its a router/modem combo, and was advertised that all I needed to do was plug it in and get "The Full Potential of my Internet" or cox says...

So far all of that looks good. Can you try signing into your http://www.cox.com account and testing your speeds there?

Were you signed in when testing? I'm trying to find your most recent results but I'm not seeing them.

Yes, I was signed in. The account might be under the name of Gordon. I also ran a couple more tests as well.

I do see it now and from the results I'd say it's apparent that something is going on. It may be necessary at this point to see about having a technician come out and troubleshoot further.

Alright, well we found out the problem. Its not the network, rather than the layout of the house and its power, and the amount of different networks and their routers around us. Theyre creating such an interference, that the router/modem has problems operating.

  • Wifi interference can definitely happen when there are a lot of wifi networks in a small area. Have you already tried changing the channel that your wifi uses to see if that may make any difference?
