outgoing email is not being sent from iPhone

 When I send email from my iphone, I get a message saying:

"Cannot send mail.  the user name or password for "SMTP:tpascarosa@smtp.cox.net" is incorrect."  

I have deleted the account from my phone and re-installed it twice.  I still get this message when trying to send an email.

    for some reason it thinks your user name includes smtp.cox.net ... no so.

    From the iOS settings menu/Mail,,,  be sure the smtp settings are:
    Server on
    Host Name: smtp.cox.net
    User Name: your user id without the @ or server name
    Password: your password
    Use SSL: on
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 465

    These settings work for me on my iPad.
