Old Eyes

I recently had contour installed because I’m over 70 and my eyes are failing. I thought voice command would help, what I didn’t expect was the guide in contour to have a black background with extremely small font, so now I can’t see the guide at all. Is there a way to change the color of the guide? Or the size of the font? If it can’t be changed I will have to go back to the old system or worse DirectTV. If only the guide were the same color and font shown in the Cox “Contour Program Guide” I would be pleased with contour.

I think you scared everyone with your creepy, old eyes.  :-)

I don't have Contour, so I couldn't verify these steps.  However, after a quick search, I found its User Guide.

    Set the Guide Text Size

Use the following steps to set the Guide Text Size:

      1.  Go to the Guide Options Menu
      2.  Highlight Other Settings with the Down arrow
      3.  Open the Other Settings Menu with the Right arrow or Select button, which will appear in the card on the left
      4.  Highlight  Guide Text Size with the Up or Down arrow
      5.  Move to the options in the center card with the Right arrow or Select button
      6.  Highlight the appropriate option with the Up or Down arrow
      7.  Press Select
      8.  Press the Left arrow to return to the Other Settings Menu or press Exit to return to live television.

  • Hi JohnJohn,

You have the "new" Contour, so the steps that Bruce provided aren't relevant. Thanks for your humor and for trying to help, Bruce!

At this time, it is not possible to change the size of the text in the new Contour Guide. This feature may be added with a future update. You can, however, control the darkness of the Guide background, which might make it easier for you to read the Guide. Press the Contour button and move the cursor to the Settings icon at the far right side of your screen. Select Settings, then select Preferences, and then select Background Darkness Level. The Guide background will get darker as you increase the number of the Background Darkness Level. Set it to 5 and then exit out of the Settings menu. Reopen the Guide. The contrast will have changed. Is it any easier to read? Play with the settings and see what works best for you. Let us know if this helps!

Since I don't have Contour, I'm curious if John can Zoom his screen while viewing the Contour Guide?  Will Zoom affect the Guide?

Just a workaround until another "improvement."

Thank You Bruce for trying to help! And thanks Becky. I don't understand why Cox would have a guide that seniors (and I'm sure others) cannot see. I've done a search trying to find a remedy, and it seems its not just my creepy old eyes that can't see the guide. And if they fix it in a future update and it requires downloading or whatever I would never know how to do that. Again a senior thing, but hey there are a few million of use and if we can't see contour guide, well.......

What model TV do you have? It's a "stretch" but some have zoom or user-ability options that may help.

Another option is to see if there is a Cox store near by with TV's set up with different boxes. That way you could try the different guides and their options and find which works best for you. It's possible a cheaper box would have a easier guide for you and save you some money at the same time.

    Old eyes realize real lies.

    JohnJohn:

I feel your pain. I have only had Contour 2 for a week and I find the guide not pleasant at all to look at. I agree the black background and small fonts make it difficult. It I look at the guide for any length of time I feel eye strain coming on. I think they should take a cue from the guide of the much maligned Mini-Box. The blue background and white text is much easier on the eyes.

    Plus.....

Contour will not allow me to delete saved programing. I guess thats a problem meant to be another tv forum question. If anyone knows the answer to this problem your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I know it's inconvenient, but I agree, return it to a Cox Store and test drive another.  If a moderator can't provide a release date for the change, why live with the frustrations.

Besides, from what I've read, the previous versions of Contour are still compatible with Caller ID on TV.  That way you won't have to squint at the display on your telephone, if applicable.

Well, out of the blue delete started working. Yesterday I tried everything I could think of trying to make it work and then this morning it's working as it should.
