Not getting advertised speeds?

I recently upgraded from preferred internet to the premier service. However after resetting my modem I am still receiving my old speeds of 50mb. Can anybody from cox assist me please?

My modem/router model is the netgear N450 which says on the cox approved modem page that it is capable of the premier service.

The device you have works fine for Premier speeds when wired although the wifi won't be suitable for much over 80Mbps or so. Can you try testing a wired connection with a PC that has gigabit Ethernet and see what speeds you get?

Yes the speedtest that i posted was used with a computer wired to the router. Will buying a better router/modem increase the speeds?

We can investigate this further, please email us the account information (name, & street address listed on the account) to cox.help@cox.com. Are you aware of any splitters that may be connected to the cable outlet?

Yes there is a splitter that is connected that connects the router+mdoem and also the telephony modem for the phone line.

Would you be able to remove the splitter (temporarily of course) and connect directly from the modem to the wall? It is possible the splitter is what's causing the issue with the connection speed.

so i tested it without the splitter and plugged in directly from the wall to the modem and i am still getting the same speeds?

If you're ultimately hoping for your advertised speeds over wifi upgrading the device would definitely make sense. Otherwise it may be time to see about having a technician come out to investigate further.

    Hi Conrad,

Are you using a wireless router? Do you have your PC connected directly to the modem? A speed test with a direct connection gives more accurate info as to what speeds you're actually getting.
