NBC Olympics streaming

I receive various errors depending on how I am attempting to access NBC's online Olympics coverage. On the Android App I receive a message advising me: "Authorization Error. We're sorry, this programming is currently not available through your provider. Please continue to enjoy other great content. . . ." Only none of the other content works (but-for the highlights, which are also on YouTube so who cares?).

When I try to access it from NBCOlynpics.com I can watch for 30 minutes and then have to log in. When I try to log in I am taken to a 404 page for an Apache server. Which is, oddly, exactly what customers of Co were complaining about on this forum in 2014, and 2012.

Those threads were "resolved" by advising that Cox doesn't have a streaming agreement with NBC when it comes to sports content. Ergo, Cox customers cannot stream Olympic coverage whereas Direct TV subscribers can. Is this STILL accurate? If so, please update the responses so it doesn't seem like a temporary issue.

  • Hi Jesse,

Cox has had a streaming agreement for NBC Sports (via the NBC Sports app) for quite some time. NBC is providing over 1400 hours of programming on the channels listed below, and have even launched specialty Olympic Basketball and soccer channels.
    • Bravo
    • CNBC
    • Golf
    • NBC
    • NBC Sports Network
    • NBC Universo
    • MSNBC
    • Telemundo
    • USA
    • NBC Olympic Basketball channel - channel 888
    • NBC Olympic Soccer channel - channel 889

All of these channels—plus 16 hours a day of Olympic live-stream action—are available to Cox customers who subscribe to the TV Essential level of service. NBC has the exclusive rights for the Rio Olympics and have imposed these service level requirements.

Based on the authorization error you receive when you try to log into NBCOlympics.com, it sounds like you might not subscribe to the TV Essential channels. What tier of cable service shows on your monthly statement?

    Hi Becky,

I have the same problem after speaking with someone on the phone yesterday and asked to be signed up for the minimum cost service to access the olympics on nbc. I added it last night and still getting the error. I've looked on your website and can't find "TV Essential channels" listed anywhere. When I log into my account my package just says "Cox TV". Either way, I was promised this package would allow access to the nbc olympics stream and it does not. I've already missed multiple streaming events that I wanted to see and the best response I got was filing a ticket that can take up to 24 hrs for response. When the events you want to watch are only on for a couple days, 24 hours is unacceptable. The person I spoke with last night on chat said he had gotten a report that this was a "general issue" and it should be fixed in the morning.

  • Hi Crabtree212,

You can view the channels included in Cox TV Essential by going to www.cox.com/residential/tv/channel-lineup.html. Look for the "TV Essential" column header at the top of the page. (Be sure to set your location using the drop-down box in the upper right-hand corner of the page.) Another way to view the breakdown of each channel package is to click on the "Printable Lineup" link at the top of the channel lineup page. The "Printable Lineup" has the channels listed according to their package name.

So that my team can take a look at your account, please email us at cox.help@cox.com. Include your full name, address, and a link to this post in your email. We'll get to the bottom of this for you!

Has this been fixed? I would like to access the full replays on the iOS NBC app, but it gives the 404 error when I log in. On PC, it says Cox does not provide this service. Is this true or am I missing a setting or something?

    @Dan21

In your case your account does not meet the minimum subscription requirements which is why you're getting that particular error on the PC. You can email us at cox.help@cox.com if you would like us to review your account with you.

I am eagerly awaiting reviewing my account with your company in person in a week + 3 days when I turn in my equipment and cancel my cable tv service.
