mx.west.cox.net & mx.east.cox.net socket errors

A GMail user was trying to send an email to my Cox.net email address, but she got this error:

recipient has been delayed:

Message will be retried for 1 more day(s)

Technical details of temporary failure:

The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. Learn more at https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7720

[mx.west.cox.net. 68.6.19.3: socket error]

[mx.east.cox.net. 68.1.17.3: socket error]

I have encountered a similar issue when trying to email another Cox.net user from my Cox.net email address.

It seems Cox needs more MX addresses and servers! Google has 9, but Cox only has 2.

My daughter has been getting the same error for the past two days.

  • We received an alert regarding Gmail this morning. Our network security team is investigating why cox.net email addresses aren't receiving mail sent from Gmail accounts.

Thanks very much for including the error message. I've forwarded it to the appropriate team and will let you know if I need further details.
  • I am having the same issue.  Since Friday 8/19, most emails I send to cox.net addresses are getting delayed (it may take 48 hours to get the notification!!!) and then eventually refused.  This has been happening since Friday.  Is there an ETA as to when this will be fixed????

I have been receiving this error when I send emails from my HOTMAIL or my GMAIL address.  This is the most recent delayed notification I received.  It came on Wed 8/24/2016 12:20 AM.  The message was sent on Sun, 21 Aug 2016 22:50:04 -0700 (PDT).  Why does it take so long?????

  • It looks like emails sent to cox.net accounts using Gmail are now going through. Have you received any socket errors from emails sent today?

  • I have not had any more issues.  Did you figure out what caused the problem?

  • I'm not sure about the cause, but it does seem that the issue is resolved. I'm able to receive Gmail emails in my cox.net account now, also. Thanks for your patience as we worked through this issue!
