Mini Box and peripherals

I have the mini box CCXID01 and can not get any sound to my soundbar. The mini box is connected by HDMI to the TV and then from my TV to the soundbar by Optical. What am I missing or doing wrong? Should I have some type of converter of some type or is the mini box just not compatible?

If your soundbar has an Optical connector, you don't need a converter.

You could have a broken optical cable.  If not, it could be a software setting.

    On your TV Audio Menu...
     - Deactivate its speakers
     - Output audio via optical
     - Set digital audio output to PCM
     - Activate ARC (Audio Return Channel)
    On the Soundbar...
     - Enable optical

Ensure the volume isn't cranked before changing any settings.  If none of these work, provide all makes and model numbers.

Can you get audio from the TV speakers, not using the soundbar? If so, the minibox & HDMI cable are working correctly and Bruce is correct, if it's not a broken optical cable, it's a setting in your TV's audio menu. The only change from his suggestions is to set ARC off. ARC causes the TV audio output to use the HDMI1 input connection, not the optical.

Thanks Guys...will try that later and report back later. Sound does come out of the tv speakers. Only thing is I didnt set the tv audio to PCM. But I'm sure the optical cable is good because If i connect the soundbar to the main Contour DVR, it'll pull sound from that and all is fine. Its just I can't get it to work from the TV with the mini-box. From what you guys said, sounds like a setting I didn't set correctly.

Question for Allen, is it policy to not issue another DVR/Receiver for the household? (cause I thought i would just use another HD receiver to pull the audio signal from since the soundbar works thru that) I went into the Cox retail store and the rep would not issue me one and said these "mini-boxes" are the only option now as long as the household has one main dvr.

I can't speak to Cox policy since I am a customer too. But, AFAIK, you can rent a digital STB in addition to a main DVR, you don't have to rent a minibox even though it is cheaper.

    sandman,

We will need to review the account to see for what equipment it qualifies. What type of equipment do you have already? Please include model numbers to review.
