just upgraded to Docsis 3.0 modem SB6121 and my internet speeds are exactly the same as with my 5yr old sb5100

I found and fixed a service code issue on the account from this end.  If it's still slow and you're using a wireless-G router I'd suggest testing without the router to see if it needs to be upgraded as well.
