How to mute tv with my remote

Remote URC 8820:  How do I mute the tv.  I select "Mute" and on screen it says 'SILENCE' but in fact there is no silence.  I have a feeling I have to select two different buttons...MUTE and something else but I've tried every combination possible and still I cannot mute.  Please help.

    Hi Lily2,

    The mute button on that remote should be the only button needed to mute the TV. Does the volume button function properly on the Cox remote for that TV? What model TV do you have?
