How to migrate Outlook (XP) from computer to webmail?

Can someone tell me if COX offers any method to migrate mail from Outlook to COX webmail.

Helping my brother move all his outlook mail from this old computer up to a web based mail.  I know

Gmail has a few programs to move Oulook email to Gmail but was wondering if COX offers anything

to move Oulook mail to COX webmail.  My brother is already on cox and all the mail is cox mail.

thanks

Ken

A simple fix for this would be to use IMAP. If you setup his email as an IMAP you can drag items from Outlook Personal Folders into the IMAP folders and the mail client will know you're trying to upload content.

Would you be able to point me to a "how to" for this?  just to repeat.   He has an old XP computer with the stock Outlook.

He has hundreds of emails that he wants copied to COX Webmail.    All I have seen so far is using a program Gmail offers

to copy .pst file up to gmail.

Would you be thinking of Outlook on the web?  His Outlook is on his computer not web based.

I've not seen any how-to's for this type of operation. Taking your scenario into consideration, you would just setup the Cox email in Outlook as an IMAP and then drag/drop any content you wish to publish to webmail into the IMAP folders and you're done.

Next time I get the change I will look at his Outlook for IMAP.    Are you saying this is just a new folder like "inbox" he could

just drag any email to.  From there it would automatically upload it to the COX WEB MAIL site?

He has his Outlook already configure to receive and send cox email now.

This is all I could find on IMAP with Outlook on an XP computer.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/264580/olexp-how-to-configure-outlook-express-for-an-imap-server

After reading this I can't see where I would drag all his existing email messages over to a folder and have them all

uploaded to the COX WEBMAIL server.

Yes, once yous setup an IMAP email account in Outlook as described in that article. IMAP accounts/folders exist on the server so you can simply drag items into the folders for that account and they are uploaded into corresponding folders on the IMAP server. There's nothing additional to install or setup.

FWIW, even if you can move email to Cox's web server, you might not want to. There is a limit on the amount of email that Cox will store for you. If your brother has a lot of email, he might not be able to store all of it on Cox's servers.

Another reason to store email locally is to for continued access. If  your brother ever leaves Cox, Cox will delete his email.

    Just something to consider.

I give up on this method.   I searched for a long time and the only thing I could find IMAP was for Outlook.com

accounts not one how too with Outlook Express

  • KenK,

The link you shared gives you steps for configuring Outlook Express for IMAP. You can find the Cox server settings at https://www.cox.com/residential/support/imap-server-settings.html

    Colleen,

    https://support.tigertech.net/express-imap

I found this site with pictures showing how to configure IMAP on Express.    What I still don't understand is

how do I get the existing hundreds of mail messages on Outlook uploaded to to COX WEB MAIL.

Someone earlier posted something about dragging all the email to this new IMAP folder which I assume shows up

on the far left side of Outlook Express.  If I drag all the email by highlighting all the email and drag to this folder

will they automatically upload to COX WEB MAIL  ??
