How can I improve my connection from 15mbps to something closer to the 50mpbs I am paying for?

I'm not sure if it is an issue with my modem or router, or something else, please help!

Modem is a Cisco DPC 3010.

Wireless router is a Lynksys Wireless-G Model WRT54G.

Thanks

Definitely your router.  It is an old wireless g router, specs say you can get up to 54Mbps from "g" but in the real world no more than 20 Mbps.  And that's under ideal conditions.  If you connect wired over Ethernet directly to the modem, what speeds do you get.  That router is in desperate need of an upgrade regardless of the wired speeds.
