Horrible upload speed

I have the Premier Package.

This is an issue that happens more than it should, always requires someone to visit my neighborhood to reset something. My current upload speed is horrible. Averaging 0.32 Mbps (using various methods, including the cox.com provided speed test).

Download speeds are acceptable (92 Mbps) - although getting the maximum 150 Mbps in the middle of the day should be easier to achieve).

    I'm having similar problems with slow speeds (especially upload) in NoVA today.  Download is ranging between 30-60 Mbps, but upload is only getting between 0.4 and 1.5 Mbps using speediest.net (trying various local servers).  I have the ultimate internet package, so my speeds are supposed to be (and usually are) much higher than this.

    I'm a little concerned about the modem you're using when I look from this end. 4 channel DOCSIS 3.0 modems aren't approved for 150Mbps service as how they don't have sufficient capacity to achieve those speeds consistently.

    I checked your modem from this end and all looks well. Can you try signing into your http://www.cox.com account and testing your speeds there?

    @ChrisL, I ran some tests this morning and was getting between 1 and 2 Mbps upload, which was slightly better than I saw yesterday (most tests were below 1 Mbps).  I talked with two tech support reps yesterday and one recommended that I replace my modem (the second rep didn't seem to think the modem was the problem, but he didn't have any other suggestions).  So I swapped out the modem for a newer model.  Just before I did that, my upload speeds seemed to improve somewhat, but were still only in the 3-5 Mbps range.

    After replacing the modem, my speeds are in the 5-10 Mbps range (most tests are in the 7-9 range).  This definitely seems to solve my immediate problem (uploads were glacial and connections would often be dropped), but the upload speed still seems to be slower than it was previously (with the old modem before the problems started), and is quite a bit slower than the 30 Mbps upload that the new modem is supposed to support.

    I will wait and see whether speeds continue to improve.  It's possible that the problems were caused by other changes in my neighborhood, but the tech I talked to didn't see any evidence of changes or other problems in my area.

    If I recall it was a Cisco you had which I don't believe was approved for the full speeds you're in billing for so the upgrade will do you a significant good there. The upstream configuration however doesn't change which is why I didn't suggest it. Are you testing the upload speeds with a wired connection?

    Chris,

    Actually, the SB6121 modem is capable of 172/131. Seeing as how I have 150/10 service, I don't see this as an issue. The next model up, SB6141, does double the download channels to 8, but the upload channels remain at 4 (and the same 131 Mbps limit).

    If and when Cox upgrades service in my area wherein the package I am subscribed to would benefit from an 8/4 channel modem, I will purchase one.

    At any rate... a new modem will not correct whatever issue is going on. My upload speed with this same modem was previously (on average) 11Mbps. Currently, I am receiving 710 kbps (speedof.me) and 3.2Mbps (cox.com).

    Actually that is not the case. Those are the specifications advertised on the box however the modem needs enough capacity to account for other subscribers' usage. Factoring that in 172 is far too insufficient for you to get 150.

    Sounds like a issue with your network, not the device. Why am I punished for other subscriber's usage?

    But we are talking UPLOAD here. Keep that in mind. I had achieved UPLOAD speeds with this same modem far superior to what I am receiving now. Are you saying that 131 Mbps is not enough "capacity" for 10 Mbps? Additionally, the modem Cox prefers for Premiere still only uses 4 upload channels. Again, UPLOAD. I am complaining about UPLOAD.

    How about you look into this, instead of trying to get me to upgrade my modem.

    Also keep in mind that this same modem achieved near 150 Mbps speed when I first upgraded to the Premiere package. So, the modem is CAPABLE of it. The service has just deteriorated. I understand that 150 (upload) is "up to". I typically get around 80 Mbps.

    Note: If you could assure me that I would receive 150/10 with a 8x4 modem (or greater), then I would upgrade. But you cannot do that.

    Download and run PingPlotter. If your issue is similar to mine, my upload speeds drop to doodoo when I get these intermittent momentary signal interruptions. Throughout the entire day I have around 5-7% packet loss, but during peak hours its closer to 14-17%.
