HDHomerun Prime missing channels

I moved from Florida and used HDhomerun prime successfully for a few years and due to work moved to Arizona. I had a tech out to install the cable card due to the home installation not receiving a signal. He got it up and running, but I'm still missing a lot of channels that I'm supposed to get. Both the signal strength and signal quality are at 100%.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Dave

In Arizona you also need a Tuning Adapter, Did you receive one, and is it connected and has Cox Authorized the Tuning Adapter?

Look at your CableCARD and Tuning Adapter Diagnostic Screens these are the values that should be displayed:

    -Cisco CableCARD Diagnostics-

    CableCARD CA Screen
    Status: Ready
EMMs Processed: (should not be zero, unless it was recently rebooted, if zero have Cox send the CC Entitlement/Authorization "Hits")

    CableCARD/Host ID Screen
    Type: One Way Authorization Received

    CableCARD DAVIC Info
    Status: Locked

    CableCARD CP Info
    Auth Status: CP Auth Received
    > next page-
    Refresh Status: OK
Refresh count: (needs at least a 1 or 2) these are the Manual "authorization Hits" the CSR Pairing the Card has sent.

Yes a tuning adapter is installed and on. The Cox technician reviewed the install and said everything looked fine. It is using a splitter and as I mentioned before the signal is very strong. Here are the diagnostics results you've identified above, my results are in red:

The two items I BOLDED are the issue.

Go to this page (login must be the primary email) and verify your CableCARD and Tuning Adapter RF MAC Addresses in the Drop-down, under TV Receivers - Select Your Hardware:
    https://www.cox.com/resaccount/my-services.cox

    CableCARD will be listed as
    Make and Model: CSA800   (If yours is a CSA908 (PKM908), trade it in for a CSA800 (PKM800))
    MAC Address:

Tuning Adapter will be listed as
    Make and Model: CST1500
    MAC Address:

    CableCARD
Status: Not Staged  (The Cox Headend does not recognize the CableCARD as Valid, It is not in their system properly)

    SDV Server
Status: Unavailable  (the Tuning Adapter is not communicating with the SDV Server)

You do not really need the splitter, try using the Tuning Adapter's RF pass-thru, This Could be a signal issue so check the following.

From the Tuning Adapter Diagnostics what are the following x values
    Status Summary
    > Next Page
Tuner: x dBmV  (Should be as close to 0dBmV as possible, no less than -5 to -7dBmV)
FDC: x dBmV   (Should be as close to 0dBmV as possible, no less than -5 to -7dBmV)
RDC: xx dBmV  (Should be between 30 to 40dBmV, no greater than 50dBmV, over 55dBmV and I doubt it would work at all)

This is still using the splitter.

From the Tuning Adapter Diagnostics what are the following x values
    Status Summary
    > Next Page
Tuner: 7 dBmV  (Should be as close to 0dBmV as possible, no less than -5 to -7dBmV)
FDC: 5 dBmV   (Should be as close to 0dBmV as possible, no less than -5 to -7dBmV)
RDC: 37 dBmV  (Should be between 30 to 40dBmV, no greater than 50dBmV, over 55dBmV and I doubt it would work at all)

Should I change the Tuning Adapter to use the RF pass-thru now?

Those numbers are good.  No need to use the RF Pass-thru, your signal might be too Hot without the splitter.

Is it possible you have a TV filter on the incoming Coax line to block TV signals?  This could happen if you only had Internet before and added TV service.

Do you have any Cox STBs in your home?

What is the Model # of the CableCARD PKM800 or PKM908?  It might also be PKM801, 802 or 803

The PKM800 Model CableCARDs are the only ones usually properly set-up by Cox for a Retail Device, all the other Model #'s are usually paired w/ a leased STB/DVR.  Sometimes Cox may pull a CableCARD from a recycled STB and forget to re-stage the CableCARD for a Retail device.

There was a TV filter which was blocking the signals and it was removed.

No we don't have any Cox STBs.

Cable card Model is a PKM908

Have Cox bring out a STB and test to see if it works correctly.

The PKM908 Model CableCARD has been an issues for others,   Exchange it for a PKM800,  I suspect Cox is not staging the newer PKM908 CableCARDs properly or they are not compatible with a Retail device.

As for the Tuning Adapter,  I suspect it also is not properly staged and provisioned, or that Tuning Adapter is Bad.  Again I would replace it at this point.

I'm in San Diego and having a very similar problem.  I am on my 3rd cablecard, 2 tech visits and a 3rd on the way, and multiple calls to the self installation support line.

I have a solid green light on my Tuning Adapter, my HDHomeRun lists the cable card as Activated, but validated is also none.  When I do a channel scan, I get about 124/220+ channels found.

The latest support call noticed that the card is activated, but not paired properly.  He tried to pair it on his end, but could not.  The best he could do is recommend another tech visit to swap out the card.

I checked my local Cox Solution Store and they said they only carry the PKM908 cards.  The support line does not have any info on PKM800 cards.

Am I pretty much SOL here in San Diego with getting the HDHomeRun Prime working?  I feel like I am so close since I get some channels, but I am missing many from the TVEssential pack, which are what my wife wants most.  Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.  :)

  • Hi Apaje,

I apologize for the delay. You mentioned that a 3rd tech was "on the way." What was the result of that service call? Are you able to get all of your subscribed channels now?
