Gigablast upload speed reduced to 35 MBPS?

I signed in to my Cox home page to look at something on my bill and noticed all of my services listed. For internet it shows I have Gigablast with 1GBPS download speed and 35MBPS upload speed. I'm hoping this is just an error as that is a significant change without notice. Previously the Gigablast always showed 1GBPS download and upload capability. I can't imagine they would reduce the speed on fiber to 35MBPS. The odd thing is when I go out of my account and look at their internet options to choose from, it shows Gigablast with 1GBPS download and upload speed. Anyone else show this on their Cox page?

  • This sounds like an error as there are no changes for fiber connections. This sounds more like the speeds that a user with a DOCSIS 3.1 gigablast connection would see as the upload is still limited for the time being (compared to a fiber to the home connection like you have).

  • I thought it had to be an error as well.  I pasted below what it shows on my page about the 35MBPS upload.  I just ran a speed test with Ethernet cable to my router from my laptop and got 941MBPS download and 935MBPS upload, so it is definitely working as it should.

    Cox Internet

    Up to 1 Gbps download

    • Up to 35 Mbps upload
    • 10 email accounts
    • 85x faster than average DSL speeds

I am getting fiber Gigablast installed on the 13th and it says the same thing on my account as well. Unfortunately in Oklahoma there is no listing for Gigablast on Cox’s speeds and data plans page. Kinda frustrating. Glad it’s not just me seeing this.
  • Thanks Danny.  I wrote the email and provided the information requested.

Looks like Cox is now offering Gigablast using a cable modem with Docsis 3.1. that is why upload is so much slower only uses a few channels most channels are used for download. I think the people who got fiber are lucky probably won't be offered anymore only this cable modem. I have the Gigablast support number I'm going to call them tomorrow 844-260-0419
