Getting one third of the service I pay for, at best

Paying for 100 Mbps cox internet and have not seen a single speed test get over 30 Mbps. Not to mention Cox's speed test is routinely 3 or 4 times that of other independent speed test, which raises other questions.

All of this after an incredibly frustrating install process. I had all of my own equipment. Modem and router worked great with Cox internet at previous residence. But amazingly, I'm told the modem was incompatible at the new residence. New 2 in 1 modem / router from Cox was laughably slow as a router. Using my own router helped some but I'm still not near the speeds I'm paying for.

Just joined this forum but that seems to be a common trend around here. Has anyone had any luck getting Cox to provide the service that they are paid for?

I was getting "close" to the advertised speeds until recently. Now it's intermittent. Not sure if it's a firmware issue with the modem or simply a service issue. Having equipment that works at one residence but not at another is actually not that surprising. Infrastructure for ISP service can vary greatly in locations (newer vs older) which impacts the equipment that can be used.

Be very careful if they say they'll send a technician out because they'll charge you the 40 something bucks.

I'm in the same boat and have been for far too long. There's always some excuse Cox makes. Sorry I can't be any help.

Technicians have even said wifi won't go faster than 30mbps. Laughable.

    Hi DarenG,

I can investigate these speed issues you're having. Are you connected directly to your cable modem with an ethernet cable?

    Hi PhilJFry

Do you get the same performance speed if you connect directly to the modem with an ethernet cable?

The only device I have with an ethernet port is the apple tv. But I'm standing less than 5 feet from the router when I'm running these tests.

And the modem / router was provided by Cox.

  • Regretting going to Cox, I just joined about a month ago, had two techs out the first two weeks, and still having intermittent upload issues.  200kbits/sec, thats BITS, download is intermittent too. I have the 200/25 package, and when the intermittent issues aren't present, I actually get more than the speeds I'm paying for.  Speeds as high as 250mbps download, high as 40mbps upload. But what good is that when it only works 20% of the time.
