Fast Forward Recorded TV Programs

Why can't I Fast Forward through recorded TV programs on my satellite box? I can Fast Forward through TV programs on the DVR box, but not on the satellite box for the same program. Also, I can't Fast Forward through the commercials on either box.

    What model cable boxes do you have? Do you have DVRs, Contour or Contour 2? See here for a list and picture of different boxes. 

    Also, any problems rewinding recorded shows on either box? Any problems rewinding live TV on either box?

    Last, have you ever been able to do what you are trying to do? Or has it been this way since getting both boxes?
