Fast Forward problems on Cicso 9865HDC DVR

Fast Forward doesn't work in about 1 out of 10 recordings.  It doesn't matter what channel or show I'm recording.  Playing the recording back works just fine until I press fast forward.  Nothing happens.  Doesn't matter if I use 2x, 4x, 6x or 8x.  It just stays at the same place in the video.  When I press play again, it resumes playing where it was before I pressed fast forward.

I should add that this has happened on two different boxes.  My Mom has the same box, and she has the same problem as well.

  • Hey tomb993

Have you power cycled the boxes for 2-3 minutes? That should get it back on track.

Tomb, I've seen the same symptoms occasionally, not as often as you, maybe 1 in 50 or 100 recordings.

SharielH, I''ve done the 2-3 min power cycle.  That doesn't help the offending recording, it still won't fast forward after the power cycle.  Sounds like something corrupt in the individual recording as other subsequent recordings don't exhibit this problem.  Even recordings made after the offending one but prior to the power cycle are ok.

Yes, I've done the power cycle thing many times, it does not help.

    tomb993,

Which titles do this occur and what are the recording settings for the title?

Titles are random, it's not like it happens on a particular show all the time and not on others.

Most of my recordings are series recordings, e.g. the "Record Entire Series" setting on the DVR.  I typically set it to record new episodes only, and to start 1 minute early and end 1 minute late.

    tomb993,

The titles might be random but I will need at least a few titles with the recording options in order to send to my video team. We will need to be able to duplicate the problem to find a resolution. Please let me know 2-3 titles with recording options for the title and we will be able to further investigate.

Thanks for looking into this Stephanie, I really appreciate it.

I want to help but I'm not sure how I can.  I don't understand how programs that failed in the past will help you, it's not like you can go back in time and record them again!  :)

For example, the last time this happened was the last Formula 1 race on NBCsn (1082).  But most of the time, these races record just fine.  For live sporting events, I set the DVR to start 1 minute early and end 3 hours late.

Sorry, but I can't remember off the top of my head the last time this happened with a non-sport event.  I have numerous shows set to record the entire series, start 1 minute early and end 1 minute late.  Most of the time, a given show records fine.  Once and a while I have this problem.  If I were to tell you it happened last night on a certain show, I'm not sure that would help you, because next week the show will likely record without any issues.

Is it possible the problem is caused by the firmware on the Cisco box itself?  I Googled this issue and seemed to find customer on other cable companies reporting the same problem.  Can someone reach out to Cisco?

    Thanks again,

    Tom

The more information I can give my Video Team, the faster they will be able to find a resolution. Was the Formula 1 race set to record on the SD or HD channel?

    Thanks Stephanie, I understand.

The recording was HD, as all my recordings are.
