Equipment needed for various packages
I was hoping to get some clarification on the equipment required in order to downgrade my TV service (currently TV essential). I called and was told that my cablecard devices (PCs using a cablecard-enabled tuner) won't work on either the Economy or Starter levels and a minibox won't work on the Economy level either (but would on the Starter level).
So from what I'm told, it will cost me more to downgrade (necessary to avoid the new sports surcharge), than it would be to maintain my current level of service - true? If so, isn't it curious that the more 'economical' options require a much larger monthly outlay for equipment rental?
I'm not looking for people to pile on Cox, as I really like having Cox, but the costs are really pushing me to check out streaming options instead, so hopefully the person I spoke with was just not familiar with a more unconventional setup (?)
Thanks Mark - you were exactly right.
Just to close the loop on the subject, I called back and a different individual made the change for me. The minibox only gets the local (starter) channels, but the cablecard devices get the full Economy listings (after a second call to tech support), although in addition to the cost of the Economy package, there appears to be a $4/month upcharge for 'Advanced TV' (although not sure what that add'l charge provides for).
