Emails from a gmail account are getting blocked/delayed by cox mail server

Ever since mid October 2016, I am having trouble receiving newsletter emails from my child's band group. The newsletter is being sent from a gmail account and I think there are 125+ email addresses in the distribution list. The newsletters are either delayed by a day or not received at all. Prior to October 2016 I had no problem receiving these newsletters.

The sender of the emails gets the CDRBL error code (see full text of the error message below) which the cox site says means:

"The sending IP address has been temporarily blocked by Cox due to exhibiting behavior characteristic of spam"

and that they should:

"The duration of the block may vary depending on reputation and other factors, but will not exceed 24 hours. Inspect message traffic for potential spam, and retry message delivery."

Is there anything that I can do to prevent these emails from getting blocked? Sometimes it is critical that they get the emails to me right away as there may be a last minute change of schedule...

Please help!

Basically the cox server somehow sees those emails as triggering some SPAM like issues (probably because the same email is going to 100+ cox customers)

Here's the article on the Cox website with instructions on how to deal with this situation:

    Email is rejected

Thank you for your reply! I will try what you suggest...

  • We are having the same problem with a Google email distribution list. Whenever we send out an email to the 230+ individuals on the list, everyone else who does not have an @cox.net address receives the message but for the 18 individuals with Cox email fail with the same error message:

In my opinion, this is a Cox problem to solve since Google can't control the number of individuals sending emails at any given time to Cox users. We have been told by Cox support on multiple occasions that Google must fix the problem on their side which is ridiculous.

I sure hope that someone at Cox will review this problem at a senior technical level and setup the needed White List for Google email servers so they don't get blocked.

I have never had a problem emailing from between my Cox account and Gmail accounts. Is this isolated to West Coast only?

Completely Agree! I have sent two requests (per their CDRBL instructions) to remove me from the 'blacklist'. No change, no response. I've spent a couple hours this morning chatting with customer support and they have no clue. They keep telling me to go to gmail. All my other recipients are receiving my email. The fist support person told me to contact gmail. The second tried the same thing, then argued that it's a Google problem because they changed recently to send in larger batches. Sounds like a Cox deficiency to me. And 4 requests for assistance with no resolution.

Very well explained.... and hard to believe. I have a 50 person bridge group that does not receive e-mail if on cox.net.

What are they thinking?  Customer hostile... sad they can't find any better way to control incoming spam.

Are you sending these messages in a group or are they individual emails to the Cox customer?
