Email Contacts

I'm stumped!  I want to import contacts from an Excel file, but every time I try, I get an error saying

Could not translate a single column title. Is this a valid CSV file

Can anyone  help?  I really don't want to re-type all these contacts.  Help !

  • VegasDeb,

Is your Excel file a spreadsheet or an address file? Typically when you export addresses from an email client or even webmail the data is saved as a CSV file which can be imported into other software or email clients. The two types of contact files compatible with our new email platform are (.CSV) and vCARD.

The Excel file is a spreadsheet.

Could you give me instructions of what to do, please?

Excel opens both Microsoft Excel spreadsheets as well as .csv files. To make sure you have a .csv file instead of a spreadsheet first check the file extension (which may be hidden by default in Windows) to make sure it shows .csv on the end. You can also try opening it with notepad or a similar text editor. If it's a valid .csv file it should open as a text file with a bunch of values separated by commas.

I looked at the file properties and it says

Type of file:  Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values File (.csv), but it still won't open in the contacts area.

It's possible your CSV file doesn't have the correct columns required for importing. MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express are the most common CSV file formats which may be imported. Here's a link with more info on the columns required:
