Also does the power button have to be ON for the DVR to record a show ?

    Hello CitadelBlue,

If you have Contour 1 record 2 DVR, then the DVR should turn off via remote and the power button. However, if you have the new Contour 2 record 2 DVR, the box will not turn off. Does everything else works with the remote like the volume and changing the channels?

    Hi CitadelBlue,

Also, the DVR does not have to be powered on to record, as long as it's plugged in and receiving power you will be able to record.

FWIW I have the same DVR...

You can set the Power Saver mode by pressing the Contour button, then arrow over to the Gear icon (Settings), then select  Device Settings and Power Preferences. I have mine set for 2 Hours. The DVR will still record in Power Save mode.

DeeJ1 ..... Just got this DVR last week so its probably contour 2 record 2. Everything else works .. just not sure why the remote doesn't power down the DVR.....but when you power the DVR up a message like " you've saved x amount of hours of energy" is displayed across the TV screen.... where x represents how much time the DVR was powered down.....

So with the power off and the DVR can record ... why would you NOT want to power if down and save energy?

    SoonerAl ...... You got instructions?

    As noted earlier...

You can set the Power Saver mode by pressing the Contour button, then arrow over to the Gear icon (Settings), then select  Device Settings and Power Preferences. I have mine set for 2 Hours. The DVR will still record in Power Save mode.

After 2 hours the DVR goes into a power saver mode until you turn it back on. It will still record.

This is absurd! Why wouldn't you permit us to turn off the box using the remote? Some notion that we need to get off the couch more? I'm turning it off right now using the hard button. But I'd like to know if this is temporary and if not, how do I get the other Contour box?
  • Hi Greengo,

The All Power button can turn off the TV and Audio Devices. We can share your feedback about the Cox Universal Remote not programmed to power off Contour 2 receivers.
