Dvr playback choppy

Recently when playing back shows they are choppy. Losing sound, slight freezes and pixel loss.  I've had the same dvr for probably 10 years.  Tv and Internet are fine.  I think it's time to get a replacement dvr?

I was wrong, it's normal TV watching also, I just normally watch what I have dvr'ed. It's like their isn't enough bandwidth for just normal TV watching and recording

    Opie,

What model DVR do you have? What percentage of the hard-drive is full? Is the cable straight from the wall to the receiver or is there a splitter?

  • I have the same similar problem. But my problem is only with the Music Channels, not the other channels.
While playing the channels that have been recorded or even watching the live Music Channels, at any time
during the song, it sort of skips for a split second or is choppy. My DVR is about 10 years old also. It just seems
    to ruin the song!

I've had this problem, had a tech out who spent most of an afternoon rewiring every cable from the pole to the DVR, and was eventually told that the only solution is a new DVR (losing hundreds of hours of stockpiled programming). If I have to surrender up all that accumulated programming, I'll likely just switch to an alternative provider since I'll have nothing to tie me to Cox.

Having experienced box failure myself it is entirely possible that is what you're experiencing. We can schedule a tech to come back out once you've had time to view your recorded programs if you like.

  • I believe it's a Scientific Atlanta,about 10 years old. No splitter involved

  • Hi Bill,

Does the audio ever seem to drop out or skip while watching live TV on non-Music Choice channels? Do you notice the problem during playback of non-Music Choice content recorded to the DVR?

  • not really on the non music channels! however when there is cloudy or stormy weather, movie and regular recordings
are patchy or there is some sort of interference with the picture!
