do not open email attachment from "fed ex"

Got email saying "trouble delivering" from "fed ex"...said to open attachment "label???something)  I made mistake of doing so and message said I had no access to anything on my computer until I paid a certain amount of bitcoins to unlock it.  All files had a suffix I didn't recognize, that if I tried to open them sent me to box saying "cannot open, search internet for program to do so".

To solve problem I ran restore program (entered "restore" in search on my windows 10 computer) to a week earlier when last major MS update was done.  Lost anything since then, but everything's working now.

First Never Open any Attachment from anyone you do not know, and are not expecting.
When in doubt, Save the file first to your Desktop, make sure your Anti-Virus is up to date, then Right-Click on the saved file and choose "Scan with Windows Defender" & any other Anti-Virus program you have installed.

Do not regularly use a Windows Profile with Administrator permissions.

Install a good Cleaning program and Anti-Malware/Anti-Virus and use then regularly.
I recommend CCleaner & Free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & Free version of ESET Online Scanner

Start your PC in Safe Mode in Windows 10

    1) Boot PC to Safe Mode w/ Networking (As an Administrator) and install the tools above.

    2) Boot PC to Safe Mode w/o Networking (As an Administrator) and run the programs above.
