Do I need to upgrade my modem?

I received an email saying that my internet service speed has recently been increased to 150MBps, but that I "may" need to upgrade my modem to take advantage of it.

My current modem is about 1.5 years old. The model I currently have is DSA321N. How can I tell if I need to upgrade my modem?

Thank you.

  • Hello BBowers,

Here is a link to our Cox.com website to review a list of Cox Approved Cable Modems and the tier of internet best recommended for the equipment.

Your current Cisco DPQ3212 8x4 Telephony Modem is not found on this list, but is supported for Preferred and Premier tiers. It isn't a Dual Band Modem, so this is why it was suggested that you may want to change the Modem, based on the devices you use for the internet.

It's a modem not a gateway!  There is no such thing as a "Dual Band Modem".  Modems don't contain WiFi, gateways, routers and access points do.  We have no idea what router BBowers has connected to his modem.  You did answer the question, the Cisco modem is approved for up to Premier service.  BBowers, if you have questions about your router, please post details here, thanks.
