deleted email address

How long does it take before a removed email address becomes available again?  I wanted to clear out a full mailbox and took the lazy route of removing the user, thinking I could simply add them back and start fresh.  However, that email / alias has been unavailable for close to 24 hours.  I don't want to lose the address, but also don't want to be checking every hour to see if it's free again if it's going to be in some purgatory for 30 days.

    Hi Squigger,

    We can see if the address has been released from our system for use. Please send the team an email with the account details such as your full name, service address, the last four of your SSN and the user ID in question.
