The new Contour does not power off so it doesn't have a power on channel setting. Your programming should come on to the last tuned channel unless you've recorded enough programs at the same time (six) to force a channel change in the tuners.

It's possible the last channel you were viewing is a "switched digital" channel and the tuner is switching when that channel times out.
