Data Usage Time

At what time (and time zone) do you calculate the data usage from?   I have noticed a discrepancy between what I think I am using on a given day and what is posted by Cox.  Now, if it is taken later than what I think (midnight) then it may be correct.  I called and asked Tech Support and they had no idea of what time is used for the daily usage calculations.  How can we pre-calculate what our usage is if we don't know the time that each day starts at?

Also, I am not happy with the cap limit penalty either.   If I get hit with one, I will downgrade to a lower speed since it is the same cap limit and this way I can afford the cap hit (living on a fixed income) if it occurs.

Also, since you changed that Data Usage Meter webpage, my computer continually freezes when I open it.  Never had a problem before you updated and changed that page months ago, but it freezes now and takes a hard computer shut down to clear.  This is the only page that I am aware of that I have a problem with my computer freezing.

    Bowl,

We are not advised of the time for data usage calculation. If you are finding a discrepancy, we want to make sure our meter is working properly. What are you using to test your usage other than our meter?

I would like to know if the daily cut off is midnight, 10 pm, 6 pm, 2 am or what?   If I am running up to the last day of the billing cycle, I would like to know what time it starts the next so I can figure out when to stop using data.   One of the billing cycles I ran over and I was wondering if it was because I thought the day ended at a certain time but it did not end until several hours later when I had started using data again.  You don't have it listed anywhere I can see so I was wondering why it is such a big secret.  No one at tech support could tell me either.

I have requested more information on the start date and time of the usage and I'll let you know once I get an update. I apologize for the experience.

This really should be clearly stated somewhere official. If you're going to charge us just because you can, we should at least be able to verify you're charging the right amount.

  • Their meter is woefully inaccurate, they might as well just make *** up, similar to charging an arbitrary amount for an arbitrary amount of data.  Screw cox. The only reason they implemented data caps is purely a money grab as they cant compete any longer in the cable tv space as everyone is cutting the cord.

Cable TV was supposed to be ad-free.  Back in the early 80's it was.  Now it's ***, and they expect you to pay more for internet because you are no longer buying their *** cable.  Since the caps went into place my speed has went to ***, they are intercepting all DNS requests on port 53, blocking various competitor sites, and throttling P2P and HTTP file transfer traffic.  They sell your web usage metadata to the highest bidder without your consent and also use the wifi modem you rent from them to provide wireless service for 'Free' to every cox customer who has the wifi modem passing by your house, which adds to your data usage and you arent even the one using it.  When will the millennials wake up and realize that big corporations like Cox are raking people over the coals.  Sheeples.

I think the only millennials that are content with the situation are ones that live in places with competition like google fiber. Anyway, victim blaming doesn't help anything.

Have you heard anything back yet on when the daily meter resets to zero?

Yes, this has all been posted before, but if you could answer my question, that would help.  At what HOUR of the day and which time zone, does it reset for the day?   You have a graph that shows the daily download total for each day but at what TIME does it reset?

To the best of my knowledge, the daily data usage resets at midnight, local time.
