Data cap ??? WTF??

I have been kindly informed that I have exceeded my data cap for the month. When did this start happening? I've been with Cox for 2.5 years but just moved to a new home in the same city so I started a new 2 year contract. This is completely unacceptable. I never signed up for a data cap plan.

Is there any way to cancel service because of this?

It's been rolling out for months in certain states, we just got it here in KS starting in June I believe it was.  Couple weeks ago however they added an unlimited data addon for an additional $50 a month so we just added that.

  • The purpose of the Cox Internet Forum is to allow customers to discuss technical topics related to residential Cox Cable, Telephone and High Speed Internet services with other customers. This appears as if you may need for someone to look into your account personally.  We can definitely be able to assist you with this.  Please reach us on Twitter at @CoxHelp, visit us on Facebook, or email by at cox.help@cox.com. Provide us the name on the account with the full service address with a link to this thread so we can get started.

  • Unfortunately, when a customer says:

"I never signed up for a data cap plan. "

Rest assured the attorney rattlesnakes that work for Cox  wangled this data cap somewhere in their terms of service.  They legally have the right to maneuver and shift their services however they wish, and we can do nothing about it as long as the Chamber of Commerce reserves comment, utility regulators side with monopolistic cable providers, and people don't stick together.

I've scanned the Cox.net website for pricing of these new 500GB and Ultimate plans. I don't see them being actively advertized.  Sort of like going to an In & Out Hamburger joint and asking for Animal-style sauce on the burger....it's not on a published menu.  Seems like you have to call in to Cox to order the addon "data plans."  I'd bet good money that the agent who takes your order makes a nice commission on these plans....Cox has "really slipped it to us."

I've been with Cox since 1993 and don't ever remember signing ANY contract.  Be careful, because any time you make changes in an account by adding or deleting a service, I believe that Cox can attach an implied 2-year contract onto you, abrogating all of the protections you had been given in the earlier contract.  And watch out for those notorious Cox sub-contractors.  They will run a credit check even on active and pre-existing customers in a heartbeat, even without telling you.  The hard "hit" will drop your FICO8 or Vantage credit scores so applying for and getting a mortgage will become more expensive for you.

Also, I've checked many times...it seems like the Cox app that lets you check your data usage is not available to me.  I get a 404 server warning, meaning no such webpage exists.  Very helpful.
