Cox Ultimate Cap Drop 1000gb from 2000gb

I have been on Cox ultimate for years now, and since last September the data cap has been 2000 gb. Now out of the blue they lower the cap by 50% no email warning nothing nota. I think if you have been on the plan those people should be grandfathered in to the old Cap. This is just not right, I had a tech tell me they are doing this to push people into Gigablast, which I want and should be here soon. This I do not think is good business practice. Not a very happy customer now, so everyone on Ultimate check your usage monitor as it has changed. I talked to support and they tried to tell me it was never 2000gb.

Yea, it stinks. Thats one of the reason I am leaving Cox for FIOS. Vote with your wallet.

  • Yeah you can read a prior forum posts where they talk about the increase...but yet the decrease gets just dropped on us - http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/9399.aspx

I'm guessing 2TB is now reserved for Gigablast....which isn't available to the vast majority of people.

Extremely upset with the stealth change to the date cap for Ultimate.  We should have been informed about the change (took place on June 7) and then had our data cap refreshed on that date for the new cap. I was using data based on the 2000 GB cap since May 26th. Since my area doesn't have Gigablast, it should not have been changed. I am paying a premium price for Ultimate. I believe it is the same price as Gigablast users are paying in a nearby community that has been wired for Gigablast, per the local Cox store I visited in March when i inquired about when Gigablast would be arriving in my service area. I really hope Cox reconsiders the unfairness of their decision.

The majority of our Ultimate customers’ usage fits well within a 1,000 GB data plan.

What about the ones that don't? Why did Cox change the terms of service without notification?

we expect that less than 5% of Ultimate customers will exceed their data plans.

And what if they do? Seems greedy to lower caps right before you start actually enforcing them. Has Cox EVER lowered the speed of a Tier? Why lower a cap?

Tiffany: The key is NO notification. One day I had a 2000 GB cap, The next day a 1000 GB cap. The only way I found out is due to checking the data usage meter and seeing the change halfway through my data cap cycle. Presently, I understand that there are no penalties for going over the cap in my area per the data usage FAQs. However, I am very concerned that your customers won't be informed if Cox does start to charge. I totally agree with the other poster about lowered speeds or caps. Cox has never lowered speeds or caps before. The 2000 GB data cap hugely influenced my decision to renew with a 2 year price lock for my Cox services. I have been an extremely satisfied customer for over 25 years. This decision is the first time I have ever considered leaving Cox.

I just filed a BBB complaint for my connection issue not getting repaired and now I just come across this.  I guess Cox has fully activated don't-give-a-*** mode.  Has the competition from wireless data networks and plummeting cable TV subscriptions finally hit their bottom line?

Hi, I just noticed that my "data plan" has changed from 2000GB to 1000GB but I'm still on the same Ultimate plan. In Dec of 2015 I used over 1000GB, As well as Jan, Feb, March, I use 1000GB+ of data and now I'm limited to just 1000GB?

Victor: You are correct. They stealth changed the data cap on around June 7th. I have attempted to get answers regarding this change via Live Chat and Live Phone calls to Cox. Already spent over an hour with no results due to the people I am speaking to didn't even know of the change. Several other customers have spoken about this on another thread.

Sneaky/Shady business conduct. I expect us on ultimate tier to be grandfathered into 2TB.

At-least an email or snail mail about it, geeze.

Upgrading speeds in smaller markets without having the infrastructure in place to support the speeds back in November(Still going on by the way 20mb/s speed every night from 5-2AM), now this.

    Not cool.

Extremely unethical business practices from Cox. They used the 2TB data plan in sales emails to promote the Ultimate tier and then sneakily take it away after I've signed up and paid for it. It's borderline fraud and false advertising.

I am literally now getting half of the service I was promised in writing when I signed up. Are you going to lower my monthly bill by half? This might actually even be illegal.

It's obvious they intend to start gouging their customers for "overages" in addition to the already absurd prices they charge for internet compare to any other first world country.

Disgusted at Cox and will absolutely leave at the first sliver of competition. I used to feel somewhat loyal to Cox but not after this.
