Cox Premier Internet Package

I just recently upgraded my internet package from Preferred to Premier and am not noticing a great increase in my bandwidth.  I upgraded to the Docsis3.0 modem at the same time.  I was told at the Cox Solution Store that they did all the speed increase automatically, but I am doubting it now.  IThe highest speed I am able to get is about 25mbpx.  Any ideas?

Most likely you are missing a service code that needs to be on your account to get the full speed of a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I think I was told the system auto-updates on the 15th of every month and it will be added. So you can wait, or call up and ask for the Premier D3 code, or a Mod here will eventually see and ask for some info to check. Which ever comes first.

The process is not so much "automatic" as "transparent to the user if we do it right."

Sometimes whoever puts the modem on misses the step I just did. Now you should see a speed increase.

Ahh, I understand. Darn, I was trying to find a way to avoid you the trouble. What should I do with these kind of post in the future? Wait for a Mod to answer? Suggest they call in? I mean you guys are great, but is that the most efficient method? I mean other then Sales getting it right, because we know that ain't happening.

I have poor range fr wireless router  Linksys 160n. I replaced w tp -link 4300 dual band but no change. I have upstairs bedroom w no wireless. I do have wired net work to bedroom but want wireless there for other devices. Antenna on the tp-link did not help.

My router is connected to cox cable modem in smart closet so can't move it to central location.

Cant I install extender up stairs? Can I install another router upstairs using Ethernet outlet? Why can't buy one router with more range. Hotels seem to do this. Thanks.

First, this has nothing to do with OP, so you might want to start a new topic. However looking at the post, I don't see how it has anything to do with Cox. Did they install your network or sell you the router? Please reply in a new thread if you think your question is still relevant to this forum. Thanks.

Trikein: I understand this is off topic. I saw your response on a similar questions in another string but it was closed so I tried to reach out to this way. Cox does have a wireless forum and you are often helpful there. I can start a new thread and see if someone will help me there.

I think wireless service is part of the Cox service. But the forum is for Cox customers to share ideas even if it involves 3rd party installed equipment like wireless routers. My router takes the signal from Cox modem and then connects to my Ethernet wired system AND has wireless transmitter. So it is all related.

Thanks for responding inside this forum. I will look elsewhere for help.

Can you go to http://192.168.100.1 and see how many channels are bonded together?

@Dcortez - Nope, wireless is not part of Cox service unless; you buy their router, had them set up your router (CTS), or "other". I use other because some areas have some crazy stuff that I probably don't know about.  Wireless strength is completely independent from internet service. To prove a point, look how much wireless strength you have, then unplug the modem, and the signal strength shouldn't change at all.You won't get online of course, but your connection to the wireless device will stay constant. Now, with that said, I don't mind helping. I was just making it known that you won't get much of a official answer from Mods or anything. Also if you post in someone else thread, and then they mark it as answered, it becomes locked and we can't respond. :-) If you make a new thread I will copy/paste this there.

So first, your network is Modem > Wired router > Wireless Access Point?

    1. Are just the router and modem in the closet? Or all 3? Or did I not interpret correctly?

    2. Do you already have ethernet running to the difference rooms? Could you describe that? Is there a ethernet jack in the central most location?

    3. You have different options; you could buy a wireless access point with stronger signal, you could buy a wireless router with stronger signal and combine the wired and wireless, you could by a wireless repeater, you could install another wireless access point somewhere you have a ethernet line running to, or you could buy a wireless adapter for the computer that is getting weak signal. Or you could do a mixture of those things. Kind of depends how much money you want to spend, how much effort, and how big of a house we are talking. Give me a little background and I will try to make a suggestion. Also, give me a ballpark on how much you want to spend? Like between X and Y dollars.
