Contour2 not working with HDMI splitter

I recently upgraded from Contour to Contour 2 and my HDMI splitter is no longer working the way it was with the older Contour system.  I ran a 25 foot HDMI out to my back porch to be able to mirror what I was watching in my living room.  This worked great until the installer could not even get the Contour 2 box to work unless he removed the splitter altogether.  Do I need a new upgraded splitter to make this function work again?  I have called cox and been transferred to a special Contour rep on two occasions and have not had much luck.  The second time I was told to try running a co-ax splitter.  That might be fine if I had no been using this setup for the last year without any problems.

Anyone have this issue or know how to resolve?

  • Hi Tbone77,

It's possible that a different HDMI splitter would work in this situation. This is outside our normal scope of support, however. Just out of curiosity, is your HDMI splitter powered? Does it have a power pack that plugs into a power outlet? When the HDMI splitter is connected, does either TV display an error code?

What model HDMI splitter and what type of HDMI are you using? Sounds like a HDCP issue. If you can't get it to work, you could try using HDMI to your porch, and use component to your living room TV. I have never tried it personally with Contour 2, but it used to work on older boxes.

I am using a Monoprice 1x2 pigtail HDMI Splitter.  MHSP0102B-D  It is a powered splitter that I plug in to an outlet.  All of this worked with the older Contour system and all the installer from Cox did was swap out the boxes.  When the splitter is in use it and the box is just plugged in to boot up I can see the info on the TV.  Once the boot up is complete it goes to a dark screen like it is not permitting the splitter.  I just want clarification on if the contour box does not permit a split signal for some reason.  If it does and requires a different splitter I will purchase that splitter.  If not, I will switch back to the older contour system or go with a different cable provider.

    Thank you for the responses!

Does it work when only connecting the 25' cable to the porch TV, bypassing the splitter and main TV? Are you using an active (like monoprice redmere) or standard passive cable? It's possible the Contour 2 box doesn't have the power to drive a 25' hdmi run and monoprice does recommend an active cable with that splitter to minimize loss.

I bought the HDMI cable from Monoprice, and I will check to see if it works on just the porch TV tonight and get back to you.

The TV worked with the cable out to my porch so it is not the cables.  Either the signal can't be split or is being blocked by the box, or the splitter does not work.  It worked fine with the old Contour in this set up, but not with the new Contour 2 system.  I wouldn't mind trying another splitter, but don't want to purchase one and have it not work as well.

Since we don't support this feature we can only try to see if it works. If you do purchase another splitter, you can make sure there is a return policy to take it back if needed. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

My guess is it has something to do with the new HDMI 1.4a standard used in Contour 2 boxes. It may have a different HDCP process that the splitter is failing. Someone here was having a similar issue with the HDMI 1.4a on the PS4 vs PS3.
