Contour XiD-P Box Drops Intermittently

Hello:

I have a Contour Xg2v2-P box in one room and a second smaller Xid-P in another room.  The Xg2V2-P box works well but the XiD-P box frequently loses the signal and I need to reboot it constantly - sometime 3 or 4 times within a 1 hour time frame.  I am not sure exactly how this works but I suspect that the XiD-P box is communicating wirelessly to the Xg2v2 box and that the distance is an issue?

Not really sure and unable to find any articles or support on this so hoping that someone can point me in the right direction because the XiD-P box issue is so frequently dropping that it basically makes my TV useless.

Hoping someone from Cox technical service is reading this and can point me into the right direction on how to resolve (or should I jet get rid of the XiD-P box and get a mini box instead so I can at least watch standard cable and news on my second TV).

Thanks,

GNAR

    GMAR,

Is the XiD connected straight from the wall to the receiver or is there a splitter?

    Hi Stephanie!

First of all, thanks for responding to my request!

There is no splitter - the box is connected to directly to the cable from the wall.

Interestingly, I have had 4 straight days without any problem - nothing changed.  But this also has happened before and then suddenly one day it just starts losing the connection adn recycling the box restores it for about 30 minutes and then I lose the connection again.  That re-occurs for several days and then one day it just starts working for several days until it stops again.  The cycle just keeps repeating and makes the service unreliable.

    Thanks,

    GMAR

  • Hi GMAR,

This does sound frustrating. Are you getting an error message, if so, what is the error and is it the same error message received after the resets?

No error message.  Usually the screen starts to blink black (no signal) than reappears.  This repeats several times (about 1 minute) until finally the screen is black for 60 seconds or so and I get a standard message about unable to play - try another station '. Or something like that.  But the box is completely unresponsive to the remote and the only think that works is to remove the power completely for 30 seconds or so and reinitiatie start up.

Sometimes I will go 4 or 5 days with no issue and then in one day I will have the issue 4 times within 24 hours.

My main Contour box in my den always works fine - it is just this second small box in the bedroom that does this.  Both boxes are connected to the cable in the wall but I am wondering . . . . Is there some sort of wireless connection through my network that connects the smaller Contour  box to the bigger Contour box to know who I am and my profile information?  Wondering if the issues is the distance between the two boxes if they require a connection to one another.  Or is the smaller box intended to be stand alone as long as it is connected to the cable?

    Just a guess . . .

The files are transferred using MoCa technology and the physical distance between the 2 receivers will not cause symptoms. I suggest swapping the ends of the cable, what's in the wall put in the receiver and vice versa.
