Contour 2

Just got my Contour 2 and busy 'playing'.  For the most part, I really like, but have a few questions:

1. Lost USERS?  I had four differ users setup for different experiences, Sports, Wife, Me, etc...

2. Lost ability to skip channels on guide, Shows lots of channels we don't watch or receive.

3. Guide only scrolls four channels at a time (bottom or top shows up again on Page up or Page down.

4. Way to remove bottom 'info' as it takes up lots of room on Guide.

5. Lost lots of options on Record (only 30 extra minutes max for events?)

6. Like the Pad option, but lost if you manually add time

Thanks for any help,  our first weekend with it so I am sure I will have more questions.

What DVR did you previously have?  Was it Contour 1?  If so, please report back to help us compare them.  I have Contour 1 and the guide shows 7 stations; is able to Skip channels;  no way to remove Info on the Guide;.

Sorry, I never got a notice that this was answered.

Yes, I did update from Contour to Contour2.

While I like the Contour2, I miss alot of the 'functions'

    1. Lost USERS?  I had four different users setup for different experiences, Sports, Wife, Me, etc...  Not available

    2. Lost ability to skip channels on guide, Shows lots of channels we don't watch or receive. They have a set of favorite, but not the same as skip, we don't get movies or special channels and no way to remove from guide.  Nothing like finding a show you want to watch then finding it is a channel you don't get.  Only one set of favorites (each User had favorites, as I remember)

    3. Guide only scrolls four channels at a time (bottom or top shows up again on Page up or Page down. Just takes alot longer to scroll (especially with all the extra channels)

    4. No Way to remove bottom 'info' as it takes up lots of room on Guide. No way to remove this preview

    5. Lost lots of options on Record (only 30 extra minutes max for events?)  No manual recording based on channel time; Guide has limited 'series' features (NFL for example seems to label each game as its own entity.  They added feature by team (Cowboys for example), BUT it does not include options for live games, so you get every talk show or special with Cowboys name.

    6. Like the Pad time automatically option (1 min before 3/4 minutes after), but lost if you adjust any time settings.   Have not figured out yet how some shows have 'live event, add time as necessary feature" and some shows do not, not consistent at all.  Also if not 'live event'; then can only add 30 mins.  I used to put a couple of hours on football games.

There are lots of cool features:

    1.  Voice control on remote; seems to work MOST of the time (but very different way of searching, takes getting used to.

    2. On remote, can use numbers(with letters on them like a phone) to do searches, seems very intutive.  An example might help:

Search Doctor Who, instead of using arrows to select characters, you can use number pad; 3-D;6-O;2-C;8-T;6-O and it automatically tries to find matches.

    3. Last button gives up to 9 options, including a DVR that you might have watched, including going back to last spot in recording

    4. While in Guide, you can jump a day by using Fast Forward button (same for back a day with Fast back buttton).

At this time, other than guide issues, I would not go back.  I hope these issues can be fixed.  Improvement in reliability outway these issue.  I have only had to reboot boxes (6-DVR; 2-client boxes on whole home system).

    Hope this helps

  • Hi wwtbilly,

The ability to save different user profiles is a feature we hope to see on a future Contour 2 update. There is a way to scroll through the Guide more than 4 channels at a time. While watching live TV, press the right arrow key on the Contour remote. This brings up a smaller Guide on the right-hand side of the screen that displays 6 channels at a time.

I believe I can offer an option in regard to skipped channels. Contour 2 allows you to set up a list of Favorite channels. Once you designate all of your subscribed channels as Favorites, you can then change your default Guide view to only show your list of Favorite channels every time you press the Guide button.

This is a two-step process. Press the GUIDE button on the Cox remote. Use the arrows to highlight a channel that you want to designate as a Favorite. Press the left arrow to highlight the Channel Name/Number/Logo, and then press OK. Additional menu options will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. Use the arrows to highlight Favorite, and then press OK.

Once you have built a list of Favorite Channels, you can change your guide view to Favorites. On the Cox remote control press GUIDE twice. The filter options will load. Use the arrows to highlight Favorites, and then press OK. Now, whenever you press the Guide button, your default view will be only those channels you have saved as Favorites.

Have you experimented with the built-in Contour 2 Sports app? I believe you'll find it easier to set up recordings for sporting events via the Sports app. Once you save your favorite teams, the Sports app will tell you what events are coming up in the next week. You can schedule recordings from within the app! To learn more, go to http://bit.ly/C2SportsApp.
