Contour 2 unrestricted sharing, DANGEROUS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS!!!

Just so this is cleared up for everyone and I am quite disturbed about this. The new contour 2 dvrs are not possible to separate (make independent) of each other. What you record on 1 WILL show up on the other, there is no known way around this. Now of course cox has a parental controls however this is not a very good solution as programs still show up or it removes all programs including ones acceptable to watch. I also want to report that the parental controls are completely pointless you set up a pin however it can be canceled without the use of any pin. simply click turn off and it is off. It was more difficult to make previous dvrs invisible to the network. These things are unacceptable by every standard and can be easily fixed by simply allowing the isolation of a single dvr. It wouldn't surprise me if lawsuits are coming shortly. I will be contacting cox to get these new dvrs replaced with the previous version and ill be requiring them to credit my account for the box rental fees since we will be using outdated dvrs with less features and less storage, so long as these new dvdrs do not support isolation in some form.

Teach your kids to respect your privacy.

Tell your kids to stop canceling your PIN.

If they're still ignoring you, stop recording "dangerous" programs.

If you need your adult programs, disconnect and physically secure your DVR.

Kids are curious and don't always know what their looking at. 7 Year olds and 15 year olds watch very different things also.

Kids don't always do what they are told. Tell them not to push the big red button and odds are they will push it.

So don't watch anything of interest to yourself. You'll have a very boring unfulfilled life without imagination.

There is no way to stop the units from communicating when on the same network and wont work unless connected to it.

Please don't post a pointless response, you should think it through before posting.

The issue can be solved very VERY easily if cox had thought it through before pointlessly switching to the lousy system. And a simple software update could fix it as well there really is no excuse, ultimately our reasons for separate systems doesn't matter, why remove an extra capability without justifiable cause.
  • Hi Walt12,

It does seem odd that you can cancel/clear the Parental Control PIN on Contour 2 receivers without entering the current PIN. I have submitted a feature request on your behalf. I'm hoping this can be addressed in a future software update!

I noticed you said “the big red button."  If you tell them to stop disobeying your rules, disabling your Parental Controls, canceling your PIN and watching your adult programs...the odds are they will still disobey your rules, disable your Parental Controls, cancel your PIN and watch your adult programs.  That's some curiosity.

This shouldn't be a struggle for you.  Maybe your 7-year-old found your PIN.  Why not just change it and stop writing it on your monthly issue of How to Blame Others magazine?

It is pretty clear you don't have children so please stop embarrassing yourself by posting stupid replies since you obviously don't have a clue what is being discussed here or what the actual issue it.

when companies have the ability or the ability was already present and choose to ignore basic aspects of needs then blaming them is a very correct thing to do. It is not my fault I can't do something as basic as separating out a cable box it is theirs simple as that.
