Contour 2 Guide Text Fuzzy

Hello,

The text on my Contour 2 guide/menu is not coming in clear. It seems to be upscaling it from a smaller resolution. I have it set to 1080p in the settings, and my TV is capable of 4k, but the text (especially noticeable in the Sports app) does not appear to be HD. I did look up on the official Cox YouTube page and found a video showing how the text should look, and mine is nowhere near the same quality/clarity. How can I fix this? Below I have a link to a picture of what mine looks like and a link to the YouTube video showing how clear it should be.

I'd agree that picture is pretty ugly and nothing like my Contour 2 experience at home. The only thing I can think of is the TV itself, being that it's a 4k the content has to be upscaled to 4k in order to fit on the screen properly. Does your TV have any upscaling settings you can try adjusting?

    Hi Chris,

Nope. There's nothing to change in the TV itself. Also, this was the same on my 1080p TV a few weeks ago before I upgraded. I figured it was an issue of my 1080 set being too small for the text. I've talked with the phone support, and the only thing they did was send a reset signal to my box, which didn't change anything. I also verified I have the correct settings in the cable box options for 1080p. Of course, their next step is to have me pay for a tech to come out to look at it, which isn't something I feel I should be paying for.

What type of cable do you have going from the receiver to the TV?

  • Hi Joshua,

New Guide functionality was recently added to Contour 2 that provides users more control over the Guide text size.

    1. Press the CONTOUR button on the Cox remote to access the Main Menu.
    2. Use the right arrow to highlight the gear icon that represents Settings, and then press OK.
    3. Use the arrow to highlight Labs, and then press OK.
    4. Use the arrow to highlight Guide Readability, and then press OK.
    5. There are 4 options, one of which is the default Guide. Use the right arrow to scroll between the 3 other options.
    6. Press OK to choose/select one of the options.

Play around with these options. Do any of the options help the text clarity?

    Hello,

I've tried all the options available in that Labs item. They do not do anything for the text clarity. They are only changing the Guide text size and the "poster" image in the Guide. It isn't affecting the text anywhere else in the menu system, and it doesn't even appear to make the Guide text clearer (just larger).

  • Hello JoshuaF,

Is the guide font doing this on all TVs in the home with a receiver? Also, I see you've mentioned the Screen resolution settings on the receiver are set to 16:9, 1080p60 HD. Is there any improvement in the guide font when adjusting the Output resolution on the receiver?

The only other TV currently hooked up is using a Mini Box. Lowering the resolution settings on the Contour 2 receiver does not improve the clarity of the menus/text.

    Hello Joshua,

What happens if you change the setting to 1080I?
