connection to internet

When I look at my status bar on my PC and over over the monitor icon it has my rotor # for my WIFI and says internet access.  It used to be network 2 for internet access.  Does this mean I am corrected thru my WIFI instead of the ethernet.

  • Hi Sami,

You are currently using the Ethernet port for internet service. You are not on a WiFi connection. You will not see your SSID for a connection using this connection.

  • Hi Sami,

You can get more information about your network connection by right-clicking on the monitor icon and selecting "Open Network and Sharing Center". If your network connection type is displayed as "Local Area Network" or "Local Area Connection", your PC is using the ethernet connection. Does this help?

It says private network using the modem .  I don't know how it changed or when.

    Hi Sami,

The "Network 2" label is a default name that's given by the computer when it detects your are using an ethernet connection.  Do you still have an ethernet cord plugged into your computer coming from your router?  Did you recently try to connect your computer to wireless network?

This is what shows as my network connections:  It shows the ethernet and is connected to my modem which can be used for my WIFI devices.  For WIFI Connection it shows WIFI not connected.  Does that mean I am not using WIFI for my desktop?

Thank you so much.  I am so confused. I thought I was using WIFI for my desktop and I didn't want that.
