Confused about number + percentage totals remaining after deleting recordings

I admit to being somewhat of a sentimental pack-rat when it comes to keeping a number of DVR recordings. At present the list, according to the totals shown at the top right of the recordings screen, is at 37% with 96 recordings.

I don't usually navigate to the bottom of that list to permanently delete one or two at a time, but instead do so when there are at least 5 or more. But no matter the number, when I *do* permanently delete, the percentage amount stays the same while the number total subtracts by ONE.

Now, I understand that a 30 minute recording might not reflect the ultimate percentage the same way as, say, a Lord of the
Rings recording, but even when permanently deleting 10 or more the percentage shown doesn't change, and the number total is reduced by one.

Maybe there's a hidden Cox logic that I'm missing here. If so, I'd welcome an explanation.

Typically you would need to delete several movies 2-3 hours long to see any sort of a dent in that percentage. Two terabytes is a very large amount of space that's available for your recordings. I'd like to go ahead and reset that DVR from my end, OK to do that now?

    StephanieS,

I understand and appreciate the storage capacity of Contour 2. Still, even when deleting 8 or 10 titles, each recorded in HD, including 120 minute average movies, I would expect that percentage needle to budge just a teensy bit more.

As long as there's not any possibility of losing any content in my DVR list, then by all means, if this procedure is a common one, you have my permission.

    Allan,

Well, the situation continues. I just *permanently* deleted 12 recordings. The DVR count in the upper right of the screen showed 105 prior to deletion. Removing those dozen subtracted only one from the total count. It reads 104 now.

    Hello Chaloots,

Did the percentage amount change when you deleted those 12 recordings?

No, it didn't, Karen R. It remained the same as before the permanent deletion.

  • @chaloots,

That sounds like the dvr box may need to be replaced. Please send us an email to cox.help@cox.com so we can setup a tech to come and take a look.

    Thanks,

Despite the satisfaction of having the percentage and remaining recordings count be accurate, I'd be reluctant to lose all that's been saved up to now on the existing one, which is a most likely result of a DVR exchange.

    Thanks anyway, Allan.
