Configure Cox Netgear C6300BD to allow traffic to personal ubuntu server with wordpress

I’m trying to setup WordPress on Ubuntu server behind my fire wall. It works inside my network but not outside. DNS is set to point to my public IP.  I have port forwarding set to allow http port 80 in to my private IP.

It works inside my network fine but not outside (it times out) looks like it makes it to the public side of my cox firewall but not through the firewall. The firewall is from Cox a net gear C6300BD

Any Ideas? Should this work with Cox? Or is this not configurable?

Thanks in advance for any help

The fix I found that worked was to put the internal machine in the DMZ

Advance>setup>wan setup>add computer to the DMZ

Now it all works as it should

  • If I am understanding you correctly it sounds like this is happening because port 80 is blocked for incoming connections for residential service. You can check out all of the blocked ports here

As Brian said, Cox blocks port 80, it's never getting to the public side of your router.  If you want this to work, you must change wordpress to listen on a port other than 80, say 8080, then port forward 8080 to your private address.  A Google search should help you with changing the wordpress port.
