Compromised Computer Notification from Cox Communications

Compromised Computer Notification from Cox Communications. Got the warning to my email accounts today and after 4 scans by 4 different programs I get nothing. It says you can call for help but for a fee.

Fishy to me.

If you can still use the internet you should be fine if it really was from cox they can just shut your internet down until you call in

I received a similar notice & it was from Cox. Seams like if a device on your network tries to go to a known "phone home" malware site (like a root kit) Cox sends a warning email. Like the OP, I scanned all devices with multiple malware, antivirus and anti root kit programs & came up empty. Looks like it was an isolated incident as I haven't received another notice in months. Cox won't shut you down but the notice is worth investigating.

Just to confirm it looks like we did send you the warning. As AllenP said you may wish to do a thorough scan of your devices as a precaution.

Not sure how to scan an iPhone 5S. Also can a router do this? I have a NETGEAR Nighthawk R6700-100NAS AC1750 Smart Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router

You should also be able to log into the router and see what devices are connected. It could be you have a rouge connection somewhere although I have seen an iPhone trigger this too.

Did update my FW as Netgear posted several security issues that were fixed. Just don't know if this is one of them.
