Cisco 9865HDC DVR Problem

I have a Xantech Micro Link IR Receiver Kit 490-85D that I would like to use to control my Cox DVR in a closed cabinet.  I upgraded my DVR from Cox and this IR receiver that used to work with my old Motorola DVR from Cox for many years will not work with this new Cisco one!!  I used a flashlight to find out where the two receivers are located on the front of my Cisco unit and I placed the emitters in front of them and nothing happens.  The emitters are working as I checked that out.  The emitters continue to work on my stereo and my Blue Ray, but they do not work on my new Cox Cisco 9865 DVR.  Can anyone please tell me why the new DVR is not compatible with the IR kit like the old Motorola was?  I searched for a solution, but people were trying to get something working on the back of the box and this is not the route I was hoping to try.  Thank you

Perhaps the Cisco frequency differs from the Motorola, so you may have to adjust the IR carrier repeat frequency of the 49085D.

Do you still have the Installation Instructions of the 49085D?  If not, I found a cached page because this product is discontinued:

Before you adjust, of course, you'll need to research the IR frequency of the Cisco 9865 DVR...or maybe a moderator can find it.

Thanks Bruce.  The Xantech works with frequencies in the 25-60 kHz range and that covers both the old Motorola in the 38 kHz range and the Cisco in the 57 kHz range.  I contacted Cox Chat and she was pretty much useless.  She could not tell me the kHz frequency of the Cisco unit so I found it elsewhere.  I ordered this off of Amazon since it seemed to work for someone else.

Oh, you're going to buy something else?  Too bad.  Where'd you find the Cisco frequency?

I checked the port status of the Cisco Explorer 9865HDC, and your IR port is active.  I think all IR ports are active.

You can check it here:  https://www.cox.com/residential/support/identifying-your-cox-digital-receiver.html

If you get the "Sorry, This Article Is Not Available To You.  Based on your location...blah, blah, blah," you'll need to enter your zip in the Select Location drop-down in the upper-right corner.

Yeah.  I did not want to buy something else, but the Xantech technician did not have an answer when I called them.  He said it should work, but I could buy a newer Xantech unit to see "if it would work".  Mine is about 11 years old, but their new units don't look much different and use the same 799-44 connecting block as the one I currently have?!  They are now about $150.

This plug in unit I ordered from Amazon is about $29 and I can return it if it does not work.  It is a dedicated receiver for the Cisco DVR, but that is okay.  I have not found a better solution yet so I figured I would try it?!

I found the frequency on another forum discussing the same issue with the Cisco 9865 unit.  I will re-post on Friday of this week once I get the plug in unit from Amazon and try it out.  Until then, I will gladly accept other ideas to hep me out,  Thanks for your trying to help!!

It could be a defective 9865HDC.  Service providers reissue cable boxes so yours may have a defective or disabled IR port.  When I first got my HD receiver, it had a defective HDMI port.  Of all things to be broken on an HD box.  My brother in SC said his was full of dead stink bugs.  Who had this box before him...and where did they keep it?

With its monthly rental fee, a cable box would be the first thing I'd swap before buying new equipment to troubleshoot.  However, you're getting good return policies.

    Hello AJDwith3,

Thank you for contacting Cox Social Media forums. So that we can take a closer look into the IR issue we need to determine the level of service on the receiver. Please send an email to cox.help@cox.com with your full name, address, and a link to this forum message. We will reply back once we receive the email. Thanks

I emailed you, Karen, as you requested.  Thus far, I have not attempted a physical connection to the IR port on the back of the unit.

    Thanks

OK, My infrared receiver came in today and it works.  At first I got an ER21 code.  Then I found out that both the TV and the DVR must be on first, then you can plug in the IR receiver into the back of the 9865.

Apparently you cannot use a repaeter that uses emitters in front of the DVR, you must plug it in to the back.  This is the one I used:

I am answering back to post the solution so other people with this issue can see what I did to fix this issue when they search this forum for answers.

    Good Luck!!
